CBT Therapy in Altrincham
If anxiety, overthinking, stress or low self-esteem are affecting your daily life, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help you understand the patterns behind how you think, feel and respond. I offer CBT-informed counselling in Altrincham and online, combining practical strategies with a warm, person-centred approach tailored to you.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, often known as CBT, explores the connection between your thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
Sometimes we can become caught in patterns such as persistent worry, negative self-talk, avoidance or expecting the worst. These patterns can feel automatic and may gradually begin to affect your confidence, relationships, sleep or ability to enjoy everyday life.
CBT can help you recognise these patterns, understand what may be keeping them going and develop more helpful ways of responding.
My approach is integrative, which means I draw on CBT alongside Person-Centred and Solution-Focused Therapy. This allows us to combine practical strategies with the space to explore your experiences at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

What can CBT help with?
CBT can be helpful for a range of emotional difficulties, including:
• Anxiety and persistent worry
• Overthinking
• Stress and feeling overwhelmed
• Low self-esteem and confidence
• Negative thinking patterns
• Avoidance and procrastination
• Low mood
• Fear of making mistakes
• Difficulties coping with change
You do not need to have a diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Sometimes you may simply know that something doesn't feel right and want support understanding what is happening and how to respond differently.
CBT for Anxiety and Overthinking
Anxiety can often create a cycle of worry that feels difficult to switch off.
You may find yourself replaying conversations, imagining worst-case scenarios, seeking reassurance or avoiding situations that make you feel uncomfortable. Although these responses can provide temporary relief, they can sometimes keep anxiety going in the longer term.
CBT can help you recognise the thoughts and behaviours that may be contributing to this cycle and develop different ways of responding to anxious thoughts.
Together, we may explore your triggers, unhelpful thinking patterns and coping behaviours, while developing practical strategies that can help you feel more confident managing anxiety and uncertainty.

My Approach to CBT
I don't believe therapy should feel like a rigid programme or a set of worksheets.
While CBT can offer practical tools and strategies, I believe the therapeutic relationship is equally important. I provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can explore what you're experiencing without feeling pressured.
Together, we can decide which approaches and techniques feel most helpful to you, adapting therapy to your individual needs, goals and pace.
My aim is to help you develop a greater understanding of yourself while also finding practical ways to manage the difficulties you're experiencing.

Frequently Asked Questions About CBT
How many CBT sessions will I need?
Everyone is different, so there isn't a set number of sessions that's right for everybody. We can discuss what you're hoping to achieve from therapy and regularly review how our work is progressing.
Can CBT help with anxiety and overthinking?
CBT can be particularly helpful for understanding patterns of persistent worry and overthinking. Therapy can help you recognise triggers, explore the thoughts and behaviours that may be maintaining anxiety and develop different ways of responding to them.
How do I know if CBT is right for me?
You don't need to decide this before contacting me. During your free 15-minute introductory call, we can talk briefly about what you're experiencing, what you'd like help with and whether my approach might be suitable for you.
